Epson ET-2720 Wi-Fi USB | Web Config on macOS, Windows, Linux

An EcoTank ET-2720 will only join an SSID on 2.4 GHz. If the everyday network now emits only 5/6 GHz, or the SSID has changed, the printer stays on the old name, falls back to 169.254.x.x or vanishes. Epson Connect Printer Setup is useless until it is already on the LAN. The reliable path: Web Config over the USB cable, then an IPP check — on macOS, Windows or Linux, behind any router or wireless controller.

Prerequisites

Printer powered on, USB cable to a computer
2.4 GHz SSID (not 5 GHz, not 6 GHz)
Wi-Fi password for that SSID
Printer administrator password (PASSWORD sticker, or a custom value — the serial number is no longer enough once it has been changed)
On the network side: DHCP on, no client isolation, and the Wi-Fi MAC allowed if an address filter is in use

Never commit those secrets. In a terminal, prefer read -s rather than pasting a password in the clear into the shell history.

Procedure

Check that the printer is seen over USB

You should see an ET-2720 / EPSON device. If nothing appears: another cable, another port, printer powered on.

Open Web Config via IPP-USB

Once IPP-over-USB is active, the printer’s web interface is at http://127.0.0.1:<port>. Usual port: 56848 (macOS, ippusbd), 60000 (Linux, ipp-usb). On Windows the spooler may expose IPP-over-USB; if there is no local URL, do the USB step from a Mac or a Linux box.

Network tab on the status page: note the SSID still stored, the “Wi-Fi disconnected” state and any link-local address.

Sign in as administrator

On the home page: Administrator Login. This is not the Wi-Fi password. If the serial is rejected, it is the custom password (or the 8-digit PASSWORD sticker).

After login, the Advanced Settings menu appears (Basic Settings / Advanced Settings at the top of the page).

Configure 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi

In advanced settings:

Network Settings → Wi-Fi → Setup
Wait for the scan (hourglass, sometimes 10 to 20 s)
Select the target 2.4 GHz SSID (“Average” signal is enough)
Enter the Wi-Fi password, confirm it, OK

The printer shows “Shutting down” then restarts the radio. Do not close Web Config immediately if USB still holds.

Check the IP address

The Wi-Fi association can be fine (tens of Mbps) while IPv4 stays 0.0.0.0 or 169.254.x.x until DHCP answers. The hostname is usually EPSON plus the last 6 characters of the MAC, via mDNS / Bonjour.

Target: an IPv4 on the same LAN as your computers, Get-Printer-Attributes PASS (if ipptool is installed), printer idle.

If Wi-Fi is excellent but there is no DHCP lease: MAC filter, wrong subnet, client isolation, or a full DHCP pool. A reconnect / lease renew on the access point often restarts Discover.

Point the print queue

The queue must show ipp://192.168.X.Y:631/ipp/print, not the old IP. AirPrint / IPP Everywhere do the rest on other devices on the same LAN. The USB cable can then be unplugged.

Useful commands

If the browser shows a blank page (TCP connects, then an empty reply), the USB bridge is stuck. Unplug USB for three seconds, plug it back in, then:

Adjust the host and port. A 200 and a few kilobytes of HTML mean Web Config is answering.

Common pitfalls

Epson Connect Printer Setup looks for a printer already on the LAN. On USB alone, it says you must first reconnect it to the network.
A computer associated on 5/6 GHz often does not list 2.4 GHz; the ET-2720, for its part, sees only 2.4 GHz. Trust the printer’s scan, not the PC’s.
169.254.x.x or 0.0.0.0 with a correct SSID: radio OK, DHCP not. Fix the router (MAC, subnet, isolation), not the Wi-Fi password.
Leaving the spooler / IPP-USB holding the port can stop another tool talking to the printer; a USB cycle restores Web Config.
The admin password is not the SSID password. Try the serial, then the PASSWORD sticker, then the value set in Web Config.
